 …I have always loved and respected the life of insects, and since childhood I have been fascinated by electricity. Even the simplest bodies move under the influence of electrical forces. An organism—or any system in proper working order—reveals itself to us through its higher functions while often concealing the ways in which they are achieved. It is through malfunction that, paradoxically, the underlying mechanisms of structure are most clearly discerned—just as a broken object exposes the gears and wires that drive it. For this reason, in this study on articulation, I have gathered the sound of a malfunctioning electrical outlet which, groaning with sparks beneath my table, unveiled the electrical nature of the final spasmodic flutter of a moth’s wings...
